Being stuck at home recovering post op I have found the e-AQA site invaluable with the exam results and question by question breakdown for GEOG2 (but I don't think they have done this for GEOG1).
As I am currently a lone Geog teacher in our school, I would be interested to know what peoples' impressions were of the first full exam series? My little group ranged from A to D overall, as expected really for their ability. Relieved overall as they weren't very happy after GEOG1!
I have some cracking results and we are much relieved that we seem to have got it right this year! the GEOG 2 results were very good, and a surpise as my pupils have struggled with the unit in the old A2 paper. GEOG 1 fine and all results are a fair reflection of the pupils - lets hope its similar with the A2 papers!
If you have not logged on to the e-aqa site then do so. We were delighted with our results but a closer look shows how maybe they could have been better & suggest things for this next cycle. Fantastic SEF & TIP fodder!
I only ad 3 students 2 decided to drop a-levels and go on to vocational courses they stayed on until the end of the year but didn't really make any effort so they didn't do well the other student who is still in the a-level class got a B which was good. I have to thank whoever set up this ning as it's been a great aid to my teaching as it was my NQT year and I'm the only Geography teacher in my school
Some time spent with the e-aqa data, looking at the break down of questions, suggests that even the brightest (100 UMS types) tripped up on some of the 'easy' questions e.g. 1ai)! I intend to plan for this both with them & with the new yr12 - lots of activities to learn (& recognise opportunities to talk about) the basics! Will share as I do them. Anyone else have this pattern?
We found some of ours tripped up on the "easy" questions too.
I also had two (supposedly bright students!) who had answered the energy option (which they hadn't been taught) instead of the health issues (which they had been taught)!
