New AQA Geography

AQA Geography Specification, starting in 2008

Cant quite believe that the exam has come around so quickly...even I couldnt sleep last night.
Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has shared ideas and resources this year. A level teaching can be quite a lonely and daunting resposonsibility. Usually, I feel quite worried about whether I am teaching things correctly, or to the standard that is required. I have found the support of the Ning invaluable...and have, for the first time ever, really enjoyed teaching the AS course. So thank you very much once again, in particular to Victoria for setting up the site, and lets hope it continues as we move on to the A2 units next half term.
Good luck to all our students

I have just had a sneak peak at the paper. Seems ok to me. A few tough questions but on the whole seems ok from my point of view. I wonder what I will think this afternoon when I get a proper look!

Disappointed - Ive now had a good look at the paper with my colleague. Some of the questions seem very tricky to both of us and we both feel that it is much much harder than the unit 2 exam that was set in January.

Hi I am new on here. I missed the exam today as had a hospital appointment. Just wondered what anyone thought of the questions? The pupils were especially worried about population beforehand.

We are not allowed to go in and get the papers whilst the students are sitting the exam - in case it unsettles them so have not yet seen the questions - what are they like?

Hi there nervous teachers! I too am new on here but think it is great and wish I'd found you earlier! Paper seems pretty awful in places - but Health, which I was worrying about the most, looks like the best of the lot! Hey ho - fingers crossed. Not looking forward to August....!

What was the population question?

Reply to This

Population question involved interpreting a "population migration change" map of the EU (Describe and suggest reasons) and 15 marker on economic and political consequences of population change....

Ouch - was the 15 marker an open ended question about economic and political consequences of population change (i.e. ageing population?) or was it focused on migration?

It was an "Outline and Comment" Q about consequences of population change....Mine said they had a lot to write about but ran out of time!

This Ning has been very useful - so many thanks to Victoria and all the contributors of ideas and resources.

Was not able to see the paper today and am now panicking - can anyone comment on what the first part of the skills paper was like? What was the big question on rivers? Could anyone give a brief summary of cold environments?

Just looked at the paper. So much on rivers. There seems to be so much stuff that we have taught the students this year which is not assessed. We did Energy and there is so much that is no where to be seen on the exams, it seems a shame that only a little bit is assessed. The population question was all about migration and the economic and plitical efffects of a changing popuation. There seems to be so much to write about there with the ageing / youthful / migration etc. My students were not too pleased with the paper. Also no health and safety on the skills. ( I think, I only looked quickly) I am convinced that at an AQA meeting they said that there would always be such a question. It does seem hard having all the papers n one afternoon. I had one student who gets extra time; his exams were over 4 hours in length. Now onto planning A2

Spoke to mine briefly - some muppets did the Energy question, despite us never studying that (we do Health) and being told at the start of the exam what to cover. They said the 'Health looked hard' (err... yes, its AS level, not GCSE) I despair! Have opened the wine already.
