No not yet. Is it my exams officer not being organised or has the postal strike delayed them? (and will I be able to blame the postal strike in my exam analysis at the end of the year???)
Will people please post the issue being discussed if they have?
At least then I can give my lot a heads up.
We recieved ours today. Came in the post on the Friday before half term. Have not had a good look at it yet. Will do later and will then start to put ideas on here

My exams officer said the advance booklets arrived with us last week. Unfortunately, I have a flood day today..bad weather in NE Scotland so will get to see it tomorrow. Hope other people get theirs. I will share any thoughts I have with everyone on here once I've had a good look at it.
We have not received ours yet and we were just wondering what the topic is on so that we can get planning on this switfly. If you could let me know that would be great. Thanks
I have just looked at the information booklet and haven't had a chance to go through it yet. The first item looks at extracts from physical activity and the environment looking at how the NHS could save a lot of money if general levels of fitness could be improved. Item 2 looks at improving conditions for cyclists and the increase in active travel through urban and rural planning. It then looks at transport and population in Guildford with figures on population density. It also includes an OS map and a blank ward map of Guildford- possibly a chloropleth for the skills element.
I received it this morning. Took a while to find the document on dft website but have attached it here. It will need some careful reading - SLN forum also has a thread
The topic for the January Paper is cycling in Guildford. The concept of Sustainable Travel plans, cycling demonstration
Here are some references that I have started to find. I hope they are useful as a starter.
Need now to think of how to teach this and the issues which may arise from the booklet. Possibles:
# choropleth map on the last 2 pages
# cost / benefit analysis of the cycling schemes
# effect on guildford of cycle routes. Could this affect traffic elsewhere
# Why were these routes chosen in Guildford?
# Must be something on sampling or techniques to collect data - How would you go about this?
Can use 'Geograph' to look at the area and google earth
Lots to look at. When are people starting? Straight away?
Thanks for this Graham, much appreciated.
I have just read it all through, agree re choropleth... am a bit disappointed if this is it re stats/maths skills! I can't see another way from the source to complete a stats test.
Maybe sketch mapping?
CBA looks a good idea to investigate.
Also I have noticed the suggestion to look at the issue of cycling near our school.... maybe link to LA21??????
Am a bit dubious about how they are able to measure costs & beneifts ie spending on schemes V's savings on NHS - good in theory though.
Some of the assumptions are a little extreme - maybe asked to criticise these?
I would also think the students will be asked to design another way to collect data - more representative, it talks about surveying adults - not very stratified..... where are the kids going to school asked?
